The Social @Shiprow is a modern take on the once loved Social Club. Nestled right at the heart of Aberdeen’s city centre on the edge of the harbour, this historical site will now be the place for the community to come together to celebrate the new era of social club. As part of Aberdeen City Councils masterplan, this design will be at the forefront of the campaign to bring everyone together regardless of cultures and backgrounds. The last 21months has shown that communities have come together more than ever before, however this may have fallen by the wayside now life is getting back to a way of normality. The Social @shiprow will aim to continue this through a multipurpose building design.

The building itself may look like it has always been there, where its lines meet those of its surrounding buildings and keeping the existing site wall. This hybrid building will take on its own form, with fresh ideas for lighting, materiality and sustainability.

During the day “The Social” will be open from midday for bar lunches and daytime functions for a more family feel, the function room can also be hired out to run events and hold group meetings. In the evening, the bar will remain open still serving bar food. The function room overlooks the bar area, this can be hired out for events for up to 50 people, such as small birthday parties and even wedding receptions. It can also be a self-contained room to separate it from the bar if required. The entire building can be hired including use of kitchen facilities.
