In the past years, the students of unit 2 have undertaken the development of a master plan for the small Orkney village of Finstown. In stage 5, the unit developed an overall masterplan of the village, promoting the idea of a Pomona and hyperborean landscape through the implantation of key building projects. As part of my design, I wanted to revisit the masterplan and reconsider how the water paths of the surrounding hills could be used to promote production and the concept of Pomona.

The goal of this project was to explore the existing water course through Finstown, specifically using gravitational water movement as the main driving point behind the following design. To do so, the design was focused on a single stream that often floods the Loch Wasdale and subsequently the Ouse. The main consideration will be flood prevention, quality of space and functionality of a productive landscape.
