Research within semester 1 identified 5 main challenges in South Uist. This research was conducted through Unit 3 with my area of research being economy and politics. In addition to this, as we were unable to visit South Uist due to travel restrictions. I was part of a group of 3 people who worked with the digital modelling team to produce a 1:100 model of south Uist. For the development of individual briefs, I decided to focus on a lesure and tourism building, inspired by the uptake of open water swimming during the pandemic and my love of the sport.

Focusing on boosting the economy through tourism and providing jobs to help encourage inward migration, Ludag Lido became a proposal for a leisure and tourism facility. A celebration of the threshold of the Atlantic Fringe; the ever-changing landscape of high and low tide. A safe, sheltered space to enjoy the water. Different elements of the sea are brought here, a natural sea pool and hot and cols pools. There is also sauna spa, which provides seaweed treatments, a café serving seafood and a pier, reaching out to the sea with an abstract art gallery.
